A happy day, a sad day, and Illustration Friday

This week's Illustration Friday prompt is "hitched".  These two little mice just got married and then hitched themselves to a star to see where it would take them.  A year ago today, I got hitched to an exceptionally wonderful man.  So, since it's the very first anniversary of being married to the beautiful Mr. Hughes, today is a very happy day!

In other news, you've probably already heard that Maurice Sendak died today, which makes this a very sad day.  I cried for a good long while this morning when I read the news.  There are several blog posts and interviews about the great Mr. Sendak that pay tribute much better than I could.  So here's a list of links that you might like to peruse as you think about Mr. Sendak and the fantastical world of terrible yellow eyes, moon jumpers, and chicken soup with rice.

  1. Sweet and adorable! Lovely little Etsy shop, too. And yes, very sad about Maurice Sendak, but he won't be forgotten.

  3. Lovely post, Brroke - such a sweet illustration and tribute to Mr. Sendak. Yesterday I heard him again on NPR, really wonderful interviews. This Saturday I'll be at the Rosenbach Museum for a SCBWI-EPA event and I'll see some of his amazing work there...
